What the song is about

“Yoru ni Kakeru” (racing into the night, 2019) was YOASOBI's first song, and it made the duo — producer Ayase and singer ikura — stars. Every YOASOBI song is based on a short story; this one adapts a dark tale about a young man and a girl drawn toward ending her life, and his attempt to reach her.

The music is bright and fast, which hides how dark the story is. It became the most-streamed song in Japan in 2020 and a defining hit of the decade.

ikura's lines come quickly, so work up to it. Start with the core words — night, to run, you, goodbye — and read the story's outline first; the song will make much more sense.
