What the song is about

“Sparkle” (スパークル) plays at the emotional climax of Makoto Shinkai's anime film Your Name (2016), the story of a boy in Tokyo and a girl in the countryside who mysteriously swap bodies — and are separated by time itself. The song is the boy's determination: fate and time are against them, but he'll find her, because their meeting was a miracle.

RADWIMPS wrote the whole soundtrack, and Your Name became one of the highest-grossing anime films ever. “Sparkle” is nearly nine minutes long, building from a quiet piano to a soaring finale.

The Japanese is poetic but slow. The vocabulary of fate and time — 運命, 時間, 奇跡 — runs through the film and the song alike.
