What the song is about

“Zenzenzense” (前前前世, “past-past-past life”) is the energetic song from Your Name (2016). The boy has been searching for the girl, he sings, since before his past life — since his past-past-past life — and now that he's caught a glimpse of her, he's running to find her.

It topped charts in Japan and became a karaoke favourite; the title is a play on words, because 前世 (zense) means “past life” and stacking 前 (before) makes it go back further and further.

The Japanese is fast in the verses but the chorus is catchy and repetitive. Good B1 vocabulary: to search, voice, past life, universe — the language of destined love.
