What the song is about

“Kaikai Kitan” (廻廻奇譚) is the first opening of the anime Jujutsu Kaisen (2020), the story of a high-school student pulled into a hidden world of curses and sorcerers. The title means something like “a strange tale going round and round”, and the song is full of the anime's mood: curses, darkness, choices you can't undo, and the will to keep fighting anyway.

Eve, a singer-songwriter who started out on Japan's online music scene, made it one of the most-streamed anime songs of the decade.

It's fast (B2) and the imagery is poetic, but the key words are clear and appear throughout the show: 呪い (curse), 廻る (to go round), 夜 (night).
