What the song is about

Danny Ocean wrote “Me Rehúso” (I refuse) after leaving Venezuela for the United States, like millions of his compatriots. The song is addressed to the girlfriend he left behind: the distance is huge and everything says they should let go, but he refuses — he won't give her a last goodbye.

He recorded it at home and released it independently in 2016; it went viral and became one of the most-streamed Spanish songs on Spotify at the time. Its soft tropical-pop beat and gentle voice made it a quiet anthem for Venezuelans abroad.

The vocabulary is about distance and promises — to refuse, to wait, far away, to forget — sung slowly and clearly. Venezuelan Spanish is relaxed and musical, and this is a good introduction to it.
