What the song is about

“Mi Gente” (my people) is J Balvin's 2017 call to the dance floor, built on a beat by the French producer Willy William. The message is simple: if the music is playing, everybody moves — my people don't stop. Beyoncé later joined a remix, and the song became a global hit.

There's very little text: a few lines about the beat, the crowd and dancing, repeated again and again over a famous hooky synth. That makes it one of the easiest reggaeton songs to follow from the first listen.

“Mi gente” is also a phrase you'll hear everywhere in Latin America, from concerts to WhatsApp groups: it means “my people”, “my crowd”, “everyone who's with me”.
