What the song is about

“La Canción” (the song) is from Oasis (2019), the joint album of J Balvin and Bad Bunny. Both sing about the same thing: a song comes on at a party and suddenly they're back with someone they lost — the nights, the kisses, the drinks — and they'd give anything to hear it with her again.

It's slower and moodier than most reggaeton, opened by a mournful trumpet, and it became one of the album's best-loved tracks. Balvin's Colombian Spanish and Bad Bunny's Puerto Rican Spanish take turns.

The vocabulary of memory runs through it: to remember, to forget, to play (a song), the memory. A great song for “me acuerdo de…” (I remember…), one of the most useful structures in Spanish.
