What the song is about

“Bailando” (dancing) is about the moment a dance turns into something more. Enrique Iglesias sings of a look that sets him on fire, a body that pulls him in, and a heart beating faster with every step. Written with the Cuban singer Descemer Bueno and the duo Gente de Zona, it mixes Spanish pop with the guitar and rhythm of Cuban son.

It was one of the most-watched videos on YouTube of 2014, and its Spanish is refreshingly plain: the body, the heart, the night, to feel, to want. The chorus is made of a few words repeated, so you can sing it by the second time round.

Listen to the gerund in the title: bailando means dancing, and Spanish uses it like English “-ing”. Gente de Zona's part adds a dash of Cuban street Spanish to the clean pop of Enrique's verses.
