What the song is about

“Cheer Up” (2016) is a playful song about a girl who likes a boy but won't make it easy for him. Her phone keeps ringing and she doesn't pick up — not because she doesn't care, but because she doesn't want to seem too eager. Cheer up, baby, she tells him: be patient, and you might win her over.

It was the song that made TWICE a national phenomenon in Korea, winning Song of the Year at major awards. One member's pronunciation of “shy shy shy” as “sha sha sha” became a famous meme.

The Korean is bright and repetitive — great for A2. It's also the perfect introduction to 밀당 (mildang, push-and-pull), the Korean word for this exact flirting game.
