What the song is about

“Due vite” (two lives) is a night-time ballad about two people who have shared a lot and now seem to be living separate lives. They talk late into the night, they make mistakes, they hurt each other and still look for each other — two lives that can't quite come apart.

Marco Mengoni won the Sanremo Festival with it in 2023 (his second win, ten years after the first) and represented Italy at Eurovision that year in Liverpool.

His voice is clear and expressive, and the song moves from quiet verses to a powerful chorus. The vocabulary of night, mistakes and closeness — la notte, sbagliare, cercarsi — is very usable Italian.
