What the song is about

“La solitudine” (loneliness) won the newcomers' prize at the 1993 Sanremo Festival and made 18-year-old Laura Pausini a star. It's a teenage heartbreak: her boyfriend, Marco, has moved away with his family; she takes the morning train to school without him, and the loneliness between them grows with every day.

The song was a hit across Europe and Latin America (she recorded it in Spanish as “La soledad”), launching one of Italy's most successful international careers.

Laura sings slowly and very clearly, and the story is told in everyday words: the train, school, to leave, to come back, alone. Ideal for A2 — and you'll hear the name Marco more times than you can count.
