What the song is about

“Con te partirò” (with you I will leave) is the song Andrea Bocelli sang at the 1995 Sanremo Festival. The singer has been alone, in a dark room with no light; now, with the person he loves, he'll set off — on ships across seas, to countries he has never seen — and finally live them, together.

The following year Bocelli recorded it as a duet with Sarah Brightman, partly in English, as “Time to Say Goodbye”, and it became one of the best-selling singles in history. Ironically, the Italian title is about leaving together, not saying goodbye.

Bocelli's operatic voice stretches every vowel, which is wonderful for pronunciation. Notice the future tense (partirò, vivrò) — Italian's “I will…”.
