What the song is about

“Bruxelles je t'aime” (Brussels, I love you) is Angèle's tribute to her home city, from her 2021 album Nonante-Cinq. She's been away, she's seen Paris and the world, but Brussels — grey, rainy, unpretentious and warm — is where she belongs. It's the kind of song people from Brussels sing with a lump in their throat.

The tone is gentle and affectionate, with a light touch of humour about the weather and the rivalry with Paris.

It's a great song for Belgian French: the album title itself uses the Belgian “nonante” (ninety) instead of France's “quatre-vingt-dix”. Learn a few Belgian words below and you'll hear the difference.
