“Moi… Lolita” (me… Lolita) was the debut single of Alizée, a 15-year-old from Corsica, in 2000. Written by Mylène Farmer and Laurent Boutonnat, it's sung by a teenager who knows people look at her and call her a Lolita; she shrugs it off — her name is Lolita, Lo, or Lola, and it's not her fault.
It was a huge hit across Europe and, years later, it found a second life in Latin America and online.
The French is short and catchy. The chorus's “c'est pas ma faute” (it's not my fault) is spoken French — the “ne” is dropped, as it nearly always is in conversation. And you'll meet a lovely idiom: “donner sa langue au chat”, to give up guessing.
