“Je veux” (I want) is ZAZ's 2010 manifesto. Offer her a suite at the Ritz, Chanel jewels, a limousine, the Eiffel Tower — she doesn't want any of it. What she wants is love, joy and good humour; money won't make her happy. And she'll stay as she is, with her hand on her heart and her own way of talking.
ZAZ, who sang in bars and on the streets of Montmartre before she was famous, recorded it with a gypsy-jazz band; it became a hit across Europe.
The French is conversational and fast in places, but the structure is clear: “je veux…”, “je ne veux pas…”. A great B1 song for wants and refusals, and for everyday expressions like “la bonne humeur”.
