What the song is about

“Despechá” is ROSALÍA's 2022 summer hit about going out after heartbreak — not to cry, but to dance it off. “Despechada” describes someone hurt and a little angry after being let down in love; ROSALÍA drops the “-da” the way people do in southern Spain and the Caribbean, and the clipped word became the title.

The beat is a light, Dominican-style mambo, and the song is a night-out plan: the girls, the dance floor, no calls from the ex. Short words, quick rhythm, lots of dropped letters — it sounds like real conversation, not a textbook.

ROSALÍA is from near Barcelona, and the song nods to the Caribbean too. It's a great one for hearing how Spanish speakers swallow endings: -ado becomes -ao, -ada becomes -á.
