“Color Esperanza” (hope colour) is an Argentine anthem of optimism by Diego Torres, released in 2001, just as Argentina was entering a deep economic crisis. The song speaks to someone who's lost faith: open your eyes, let go of fear, know that change is possible — and paint your life in the colour of hope.
It became a hymn at schools, protests and fundraisers across Latin America, and in 2020 dozens of artists recorded a new version during the pandemic.
The chorus is famous for its play on “poder”: to know that it can be done, to want it to be possible. It's a gentle way to meet the subjunctive (que se pueda), and the rest of the song is clear, slow and full of everyday words.
