What the song is about

“Fico Assim Sem Você” (that's how I am without you) was a 2002 hit for the Rio funk duo Claudinho & Buchecha. Adriana Calcanhotto recorded it in 2004 for her children's album Partimpim, and her soft version became a favourite of kids and couples alike.

The song is a list of things that are useless without their partner — a plane without a wing, football without a ball, a fire without embers — and after each one, the punchline: that's me without you. It's silly, sweet and very easy to follow.

It's ideal for beginners: every line has the same structure, “sem” (without) appears again and again, and the nouns are everyday ones you'll want to know.
