What the song is about

“Ai Se Eu Te Pego” (oh, if I catch you) is a Saturday-night flirt: at a party, the singer sees the most beautiful girl in the place, gets up the courage to talk to her, and sings that she's killing him — oh, if I catch you. That's the whole story, and it's enough.

Michel Teló's live recording of the sertanejo song went around the world in 2011–12, helped by footballers who danced it to celebrate goals. It reached number one across Europe and Latin America.

It's the perfect first Portuguese song: a handful of short lines repeated many times, sung clearly. Learn “nossa!” — Brazil's all-purpose “wow!” — and you'll hear it in every conversation.
