What the song is about

“Show das Poderosas” (the show of the powerful women) is the 2013 song that made Anitta famous across Brazil. It opens with a shout of “Prepara!” — get ready! — and describes a group of confident women taking over the dance floor and leaving their rivals behind.

Anitta grew up in Honório Gurgel, a working-class area of Rio, and started in funk carioca, the city's bass-heavy party music. This song brought that sound to mainstream pop.

The Portuguese is fast and full of Rio attitude. Learn the dance words — rebolar (to swing your hips), o baile (the funk party) — and the commands, and you'll follow the energy even before every word.
