Solang helps you learn languages through songs. We collect as little as we can, never sell your data and show no ads. This page explains what we store, why, and how to delete it.
What we collect
Account: your email address, used only to sign you in with a magic link and to send account emails. We never share it or use it for marketing without asking.
Your learning data: saved words and their review schedule, the songs you added (title, artist and video reference — never the lyrics), your languages, and the days you practiced (for streaks). It is stored so it syncs across your devices.
Age group: whether you are 13–17 or 18+, which you choose when you start. It is kept on your device to turn on clean mode and age-appropriate explanations for teens, and the AI tutor is told only "teen" or "adult". We never ask for your birth date.
Daily reminders (optional): if you turn them on, your browser gives us a push "subscription" address plus your reminder time and time zone, so we can send one notification a day.
Early access: if you asked us for an invitation before Solang opened, your email address.
"Report a mistake": which song, line and word you flagged and the reason. Linked to your account if you are signed in.
Usage analytics: anonymous events such as "played a song", "saved a word" or which buttons were tapped, page-speed measurements, and replays of how the app was used (screens and taps, with everything you type hidden and song lyrics masked), used to find bugs and improve the product. We use no cookies; a random anonymous ID is kept in your browser's storage so a returning visit counts once. Signed-in events are linked to a random account ID, never your email. You can turn this off any time in Settings → Share anonymous usage.
Error reports: technical details when something breaks (error message, page), so we can fix it.
Your voice (only when you tap the microphone): to score how you said a phrase, or to write down what you said instead of typing, the short recording is sent to Cloudflare's speech-to-text model, turned into text in memory and never stored.
What we don’t collect
We do not access your contacts, location or listening history, or your microphone unless you tap it. We do not store song lyrics in our database, with your account or on your device. We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Services we rely on
Supabase (database and sign-in, hosted in Frankfurt, EU) · Cloudflare (hosting) · PostHog (analytics and error tracking, EU region) · Resend (sign-in emails) · Anthropic (Claude generates translations and explanations from song lyrics — no personal data is sent) · Musixmatch or another licensed lyrics provider (lyrics; they may be kept in a temporary cache for up to 30 days, never stored in our database or with your account).
Songs play through the embedded YouTube player, which is provided by Google and subject to the Google Privacy Policy (policies.google.com/privacy) and the YouTube Terms of Service (youtube.com/t/terms). YouTube may use cookies when a video plays.
How long we keep it
Your account and learning data are kept until you delete your account. Analytics and error data are kept for up to 12 months. Early-access emails are deleted once the invitation has been sent, unless you create an account.
Your choices and rights
You can use the demo without an account. You can turn reminders off at any time in Settings or in your browser.
Delete your account in Settings → Delete account: this permanently removes your account and all your learning data. You can also email hello@solang.app to access, correct, export or delete your data, or to object to its processing. If you are in the EU/EEA or UK, you have these rights under the GDPR and may complain to your local data-protection authority.
Children
Solang is for people aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data: if someone says they are under 13, we don’t let them continue and don’t store their answer. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, contact hello@solang.app and we will delete it.
Users aged 13 to 17 get clean mode: songs marked explicit are hidden and the AI tutor keeps its explanations age-appropriate. Where local law requires a parent’s or guardian’s consent for a minor to use Solang or for us to process their data, the minor needs that permission before using Solang. A parent or guardian can contact us to access or delete their child’s data.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update this page and, for signed-in users, let you know in the app. Questions: hello@solang.app.
